Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 03/26/2012

Number: 1

We saw our first monarch on 25 March (extremely worn, sex unknown, guessed it was a female). On 6 April, we collected 16 eggs on 12 A. syriaca plants!  The plants were about 6 inches tall.  We had freeze warnings that night and the next.  I don't know what happened to the plants, but the larvae certainly risked freezing to death.

Here's my little census:

7 plants had 0 larvae

1 plant had 1 larva

2 plants had 3 larvae

1 plant had 4 larvae

1 plant had 5 larvae

TOTAL: 12 plants had 16 larvae
