The ice-out on Moccasin Lake in Vilas County, Wisconsin was out really early this year - March 20th. It's the earliest we've seen it go out since we've been here (1998) and the first time the loon or loons haven't arrived the day of ice out or the day after.* It seems others in our area were waiting for the loons to get here too! (Reporting 4/12/12)

* The first loon of the year was sighted on April 9th, 20 days after ice-out.
