All Other Signs of Spring

Date: 04/08/2012

Number: 1

Sunday (4/8), saw a Bluebird, most likely a Mountain Bluebird. So far as I'm aware, it is the only species of Bluebird to have ever been seen up here. I've seen perhaps a half dozen over the years that I could positively identify. All were Mountain Bluebirds.
But this one was too far away to be 100% sure what species it was. All I could say for sure was that it was a Bluebird. The Bluebird was about two miles southwest of my house.

Also on Sunday, I saw a Northern Shrike. It was about five miles west of my place.

On Monday I saw a pair of American Widgeon and several Brewers Blackbirds. The Widgeons were at the Hawk Hills water supply pond a mile south of my house, The blackbirds were a couple of miles further west for there.

On Tuesday I saw Trumpeter Swans also at the Hawk Hills water supply, and half way to town I saw a Red Tailed Hawk. That would have been at Latitude,57.004377, Longitude -117.633018

Today (4/11) I saw an American Kestrel at Latitude, 57.208727, Longitude
-117.434578
Then at Latitude, 57.293954, Longitude -117.263861 I saw;

Greater White Fronted Geese, Mallard Ducks, Pintail Ducks, and Green Wing Teal.

I expect that any day now we will start seeing White Throated Sparrow, White Crowned Sparrow, Lincolin Sparrow and a number of other birds in that size range. They are generally not far behind the Robins and Blackbirds.

Hawk Hills, AB
