Rainy Lake, on the US/Canada border, near Fort Frances, Ontario and International Falls, Minnesota
"A combination of above-normal temperatures and Sunday's windy conditions resulted in 'ice-out' on the north arm of Rainy Lake as of yesterday (April 9), which is the earliest date on record.
'Ice-out' occurred on May 2 last year and on April 12 in 2010, which at the time was the earliest on record.
Meanwhile, the U.S. side declared 'ice-out' on Good Friday (April 6).
'Ice-out' there means it is possible to travel by boat from Island View to Kettle Falls unimpeded by ice.
Last year, 'ice-out' was declared May 2."
