Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/13/2012

Number: 1

I walked around Temple Flat Rock in western Wake County today, a property owned by the Triangle Land Conservancy. The habitat here is mainly open fields which were burned 2-3 weeks ago. The gem of the property is the granitic flat rock, and this is where the majority of the butterflies were seen. The most popular nectar source was on the flat rock, Appalachian Sandwort (Minuartia glabra).
