Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/15/2012

Number: 1

I saw a beautiful male ruby-throated hummingbird about 3:15 p.m. at my window feeder. I have been tracking the accelerated migration on this site, and have had my feeders up since the third week of March to attract any early arrivals or transients. I also have three hanging baskets with bright red and pink flowers nearby to attract the birds' attention.

I am in the southwest NC mountains, and have read about sightings an hour east and west of here. However, it seems to take the hummingbirds awhile to get the energy to make the trek over the mountains to our area. I am thrilled they have arrived.
