Monarch (OTHER Observations)
Sightings report image

Date: 04/16/2012

Number: 1

We had a mild cold front last night (4/15) and our overnight lows were in the low 50's.

Daytime temps are still in the 70's and 80's though, got about 0.10 inch of rain yesterday.

Monarchs are still being seen daily; a good mix of new generation and travelers from Mexico.

We've had several new ones emerge here at the house; total of 10 so far; 6 males and 4 females.

We have many other chrysalis that will eclose within the next 24-48 hours.

The cooler temps have slowed things down a bit.

Still see a few eggs but mostly larvae in their latter instar stages.

We did see a small one on a leaf yesterday. Pretty much had a whole plant to itself.

Native milkweed is very plentiful as are a large number of nectar plants. Here's a photo of a new female.
