Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 04/18/2012

Number: 1

First three monarchs of the season spotted -- two by my wife and one myself. My spotting was a fresh-looking adult (sex unknown).

Yes, the admirals are everywhere here -- in my backyard as well as the butterfly garden here at the nature center. My monarch sighting (from my backyard) is the real deal. Fortunately, Asclepias syriaca and A.
tuberosa are coming up for egg-laying sites. Time to start checking leaves!

I've tagged monarchs in the past and can confidently confirm that I saw two on my daily walking commute through Hastings, Nebraska yesterday. The first one alighted close enough that I was able to identify it as a female. It looked fresh.
The second one, which I spotted a few blocks later, was in flight overhead and I wasn't quite able to sex it.
