I saw the first Sandpiper of the year. It was on the outskirts of Manning. A Lesser Yellowlegs.
After work today I went and checked my favorite Sandpiper place to see if there were more around, but all I found were two new, (for this year) species of Ducks.
Several Shoveler Ducks and one pair of BuffleHead ducks.
This spring the pattern of returning birds is rather different then most years. As a rule the Sandpipers arrive after the Sparrows, this year they are ahead of them. And the Shoveler Ducks are often the last ducks to arrive, this year they are in the middle of the pack.
