Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/30/2012

Number: 1

Two males fighting over the feeder is our first sighting. Feeders up for a few weeks. Been watching more often these last few days. Noticed 5 days before their arrival that the last of the maple trees leafed out, 4 days before Alzalea bloomed. Day of arrival noticed little flowers on plants that wintered over around light post base, our 2nd Noreigen spruce has just begun new growth. The neighbor's White Dogwood coming to life. They didn't arrive any earlier this year cause of the warm winter and 3rd warmest march. NWS says that March was warmer (avg. temp.) than April. Only happened 3 times since record keeping began more than 100 yrs ago. Tonight (May 1st) my daughter, from the porch told me they were fighting. So she and a few friends had front row seats to one of those battles at dusk, before night sets in.
