Oriole (1st Baltimore)

Date: 05/02/2012

Number: 1

The first male oriole of the season put in a backyard appearance today, and visited the orange & jelly feeder frequently, showing a stong preference for the jelly. Had noticed last year that the orioles seemed to prefer jelly-water to having their jelly "neat," but have had a cup of each type available on the feeder along with the orange. A clever catbird has been enjoying the jelly since 5/1, too. The female orioles were partial to sunflower seeds last year, as well, and visited other bird feeders for those. I make the jelly-water a 50/50 mix and that seems to be their favorite. Had 2 oriole couples last year, and hope both will return again this year.
