Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/03/2012

Number: 1

Our first monarch of 2012 was sighted at the Blair Outdoor Education today. Students are introduced daily to Journey North, and today was no different. Late in the afternoon Grade 7 students from Lester B. Pearson Public School in Waterloo were studying Ecology and checking some nest boxes when a fresh, bright orange monarch flashed by on a breeze. It was a warm day at 22 degrees C with a south east wind at 15 km/hr. It was another huge day for red admirals with sightings of question mark, cabbage white, common sulphur, spring azure and a lady - not sure which one. Also the first singing common yellowthroat, white crowned sparrow and black throated green warbler. A beautiful spring day!
