I saw my first monarch of the season today in my yard....too far away to tell if male or female. He/she seemed to be on a mission, searching among the plants, so I'm guessing female. My milkweed is only a few inches high--the rabbits chew off the top as soon as it breaks through the ground. I checked some of the milkweed plants for eggs, but found none so far.
Lots of red admirals are around, keeping me company as I work in my gardens.
