Monarch Waystation #271 at my home garden reports the first monarch caterpillars of the season. This morning about 7:45 am I found 2 2nd instar monarch larvae feeding on the flower buds of one of my purple milkweed plants in the north side bed. I could only get a shot of the rear ends showing because they buried their heads deep under or inside the flower head. I stopped looking for any others, just wanted to take pix and head off to work.
I never saw the female that laid these eggs! Welcome to my garden, little ones!
