All Other Signs of Spring

On Monday, I was driving home from school at lunchtime. The sun was shining and the weather was beautiful. I was driving from St. Regis Falls to Peru St. (right on the border of St. Lawrence and Franklin Counties off Rt. 11B). While driving on County Rt. 5 from the Falls, then Aiken Rd. to Rt. 11B, and 11B to Peru Street, I was stunned by the number of Red Admiral butterflies I saw flying across the highways! I couldn't count to 3 without having one in front of my car. I began going about 35mph hoping to avoid hitting some of them. It was unbelievable! On Sunday, the day before, I chose not to mow the lawn because these little butterflies were dipping down onto the dandelions all over my yard. Since dandelions are the only things blooming, I left them for the butterflies. I didn't know what type these butterflies were until I heard your report on NCPR and saw the picture. Thanks!
