Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/09/2012

Number: 1

FINALLY!! I have had feeders and flowers since March due to the early and beautiful spring we are enjoying. This morning at 0647 my little male was back sitting in the mimosa, guarding the yard, as always, then came over and drank from a feeder on the front porch. This is the latest 1st spring sighting since I began watching them in summer of 2007. He's the only one here, so far. None of my friends that feed hummingbirds has seen one in Pittsburg yet, either. They are normally all here, by May 7th. In the past they have arrived as early as the last week of April, but this year....May 9th! So happy to get the hummingbird season going again. I don't know why, but these birds have got me right where they want me! Amazing little guys!! What a joy.
