Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 04/13/2012

Number: 1

As with everyone, this was the earliest we have ever seen them. The odd thing is that there is only one pair, while in previous years, we have had as many as 8 pairs (as best as we could count). Feeders are in the same place, etc., so we are hoping that this is just an early pair. Our neighbors also have not seen any yet. It is possible, that with the honeysuckle, rhododendrum anf ornamental holly in bloom, they are not using the feeders, but that seems unlikely.
