Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted
Sightings report image

Date: 05/11/2012

Number: 1

For the first time in two months the garden has the large number of hummingbirds it hosted last winter. But while the winter residents were Anna's (both male and female), the current residents/visitors are an odd mix: a few male Anna's, at least half a dozen female rufous, an occasional male rufous (who usually comes at dusk), and--now and then--a female Anna's. I suspect the female Anna's have moved down the hill to the lagoon where bugs are more plentiful, while the rufous may be feeding on the small but abundant garden insects? We'll learn when they bring their babies, I guess.
