Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 05/20/2012

Number: 1

At Presqu'ile Provincial Park, Ontario - directly opposite Rochester, N.Y - I spotted about 12 monarchs in an hour, and captured two females to examine. They appeared to be exploring dog strangling vine with the intention of possibly laying eggs. In good shape, no tears, but the wings were a dull orange, not bright or new looking. Milkweed now from 6 to 8 inches tall and abundant, but not as tall as the dog strangling vine. Lilacs in full bloom.
