Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 05/18/2012

Number: 1

"The south wind that fanned the forest fire toward Ely a couple days ago brought with it clouds of migrating monarch butterflies-more than any of us have ever seen. Before the wind, we saw none this year. Yesterday (5/18/12), they were all over. We couldn't stop talking about it. Today, a clump of lilac bushes had maybe a hundred flitting around it along with red admiral butterflies, Compton's tortoise shell butterflies, big boreal bumblebees, hummingbird moths, and more. We have never seen so many monarchs." biologists Dr. Lynn Rogers and Sue Mansfield in Ely, Minnesota. The complete Update can be found at bearstudy.org.
