I was driving on Hwy 57 from I-95 toward Ludowici, during the afternoon of May 19, 2012 in the Townsend area when I noticed a bald eagle landing on the shoulder of the road to my left for a moment before flying back into the woods. He was very clearly a bald eagle - I have seen enough of them in captivity - but not large enough to be fully grown.
