On May 29 on western_monarchs@yahoogroups.com, Sarina Jepsen, an entomologist with the Xerces Society reported: "While doing some rare species surveys, my coworker (Alexa Carleton) and I saw a monarch along Joseph creek (Asotin County, Washington - near the Chief Joseph state wildlife recreation area) on May 18 of this year. We
were really surprised. Unfortunately, it flew off before we could get a photo."
