Monarch Larva (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/02/2012

Number: 1

While outside in the yard, I saw a Monarch larvae sitting on a milkweed leaf. It wasn't moving, just sitting there. I thought I had better take it in the house to protect it and help "launch" it into the adult Monarch. I did not see any Monarchs yet this year.
I put fresh milkweed in water in the little cage but the larvae will not eat. It is up near the top of the cage. When I put my finger in, it dropped down in the J for a moment and then fell to the bottom. It's still alive but doing nothing. I think it is not healthy and will not develop. Normally they eat and eat and eat and this one ate a notch in one leaf and that's it. Very interesting.
