Robert Hughes and Jean Olson report seeing two monarchs, and later one, at Vegreville, Alberta - east of Edmonton. This is the first monarch Robert Hughes has seen in Alberta in 36 years living there. He added these notes:
"We had very strong SE winds in Vegreville, Alberta, for a few days, leading up to June 7. Until the one I saw on June 7, I had never seen a live Monarch the whole time I've lived in Alberta, since 1976. I'd only seen very few dead specimens, sent in to the old Brooks Horticultural Station, and at the past Alberta Environmental Centre, where I worked on insect diagnostics."
