Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/03/2012

Number: 1

It was cold, raw and spotting the great little bird made it bright and terrific! Several Ruby Throated birds have been visiting our 3 feeders daily since the beginning of May 2012, even tho some days have been very chilly in the mornings.

ALSO: Since the beginning of June 2012, Downy Woodpeckers are now competing with the Ruby Throated Hummingbirds at our feeders .. sometimes two at a time .. and I've seen three trying to land at the same time! One dipped his beak 50 times without stopping ..!! Cute to watch.
Flickers, BlueJays and Male Cardinals have all been watching the Woodpeckers, and are trying to figure out what the heck is going on with those feeders; so far none have landed on them, just around and observing.

Wishing there were MORE hummingbirds .. but not denying the Downy's .. the season is off to a great start.
