Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 06/24/2012

Number: 1

My first Monarch adult is a young female with good wings.
She arrived 10:30 am and laid eggs for an hour or more. She was drawn first to my 40 ft border of blooming Asclepis Tuberosa because of the color (orange) then she went on to my bed of Asclepias Incarnata, already blooming (pink) and finally laid eggs on the mature Asclepias Syriaca (Common) not yet blooming. I have over 400 plants of Common Milkweed, fully 175 are mature size; remainder are 2 ft and strong. I expect good growth on them this year. I collect and bag the seeds.
The flower border is fronted by Tuberosa, backed by interspersed Syriaca, and main border composed of Echinacea, Rudbeckia, Liriatris, Lillies, and Russian Sage. The 2.6 acres are surrounded by slow moving brook and heavy plantings of Butterfly Bush. By the brook I am explanding the Incarnata plantings this year.
Last year I had and bithed over 20 Monarchs. Word is out, hope my property becomes the new Monarch Bed and Breakfast for Neptune/Tinton Falls NJ (near exit 100 Garden State Parkway)!
Thanks, Raine
