We have released 42 monarch butterflies from 6/7 through 6/26. Last year did not even see caterpillars until 7/24. None released laid eggs on our milkweed. Do they continue north or do they just move on in the area? I've seen many milkweed patches with no activity of caterpillars. There seem to be a lot of insects like earwigs, spiders, lady bugs and aphids. On 7/8, we found some eggs and one 3rd instar and more eggs freshly laid today. It is very dry and most ditch milkweed has leaves falling off. I have milkweed in my garden and have kept it watered.
