Monarch Adult (FIRST sighted)

Date: 07/12/2012

Number: 1

First Monarch I've seen in our area in Many years! I've been hoping to see some up here because it has been a strong year in Calif. so far. I Went to check on milkweed patches and look for eggs or caterpillars, but spotted a very large adult flying about. Even better! Got a very poor picture and short video, but it stayed too far away, and would not set down for long enough to get good shots. Don't think I'll post them here, But we are very excited. Looked further south at other sites and found a half dozen adults and 20+ cats from third to fifth instar! I'll report them seperately, with picture of the cats. This is a really big deal for North Idaho, as I have not seen a verifiable report of a monarch by anyone for at least ten years in this area!!
