Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 07/15/2012

Number: 1

I have a great observation set up in my kitchen. I can sit at the kitchen window and watch three feeders like a drive in movie. As I watched the dogfights today, I noticed a hummer that looked different, sitting on a tree branch. I took the binoculars for a better look and I believe I have a Rufous Hummingbird here in Maryland. It is distinctly different. My guess would be a juvenile, it has a brown head, one or two dark feathers on its throat, which has spots in lines, and looks very different from the Ruby Throats...mature and juvenile. I will watch for another sighting over the next few days. Unfortunately I can't get a photo.
