Monarch butterflies have returned to Canelo marsh. They are nectaring on Butterflyweed, Asclepias tuberosa, thistles, and Asclepias subverticillata in bloom. Numbers are larger than usually for this date in previous years. Milkweed and other nectar are advanced for date. Recent rains have noticeably green up the area - it is once again lush and swampy.
