Hummingbird, Other Species Sighted

Date: 06/28/2012

Number: 1

I saw a very large hummingbird that was about two and a half times bigger than a regular sized one. It was all black with a red chest like a robin. It was checking the flowers on my tomato plants. I didn't know what it was because it was so big but it flew backwards from flower blossom to flower blossom, but it didn't stay long, about 15 to 20 seconds at the most. It was not interested the the tomato flowers. None of the pictures on the internet looked like it for the hummingbirds in North America and I really didn't think it was a hummingbird. It flew like one though and had a long beak. Then my daughter searched for the biggest hummingbird and found a picture of one that it looked like which was the Giant Hummingbird from South America. How can that be possible?
