Hummingbird, Ruby-throated (FIRST)

Date: 05/10/2012

Number: 1

***** NOT AS MANY HUMMINGBIRDS AS IN YEARS PAST *****Of course the males always show up first. I have been feeding the ruby throated hummingbirds since 2003 when we bought our house here. People here usually put out their feeders around Mother's Day I always put mine out a week to two weeks early cause they show up that early. There are not that many flowers in bloom maybe some honeysuckle in my yard so I always make sure that the two feeders are full, fresh and waiting for them.
In years past I have had alot of hummingbirds at my feeders all spring, summer into early fall I can bearly keep up with the nector that I make for them. I CHANGE MY FEEDERS EVERY 3 DAYS TO KEEP IT COOL AND FRESH FOR THEM. MY HUSBAND JOKES THAT THEY ALL TALK AMONG THEMSELVES AND SAY I HAVE THE BEST NECTOR ON THE BLOCK. ******** The scary thing is that this summer there were not alot of hummingbirds at my feeders. and the level of the nector drops but not like in the past. My husband thinks it was because of the GULF OIL SPILL********
