Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/05/2012

Number: 9

I noted the first Monarchs in Sedgwick and Brooksville, Maine about July 9 (although I wasn't noting in June). Several more Monarchs appeared later in July, with more in August, laying eggs on the Asclepias incarnata and A. tuberosa. Then, I observed lots of M. caterpillars munching on the milkweed on the Sedgwick site. Instars moved to the pupation stage, attached to Buddleia leaves, Boxwood, etc. Today, Aug. 5,
I counted about a 9-10 Monarchs, playing tag on the approx. 15 Buddleias blooming on the site in Sedgwick.
