I just saw the first monarch in several months. It was a female in good condition on my milkweed in my garden.
I just got back from a trip to Houston. On the way back I saw
dozens of Monarchs crossing the highway. Sadly many were being hit by the cars traveling at 70 mph or more.
I hated to see that. I slowed up to 60 mph and pulled over to the right lane till I didn't see anymore.
I am sure because I hit one and saw it on my grill when I pulled over.
I felt really bad about it. I drove the last 100 miles to my home in central texas much slower.
I did not see any more Monarchs past Hempstead Tx which is just outside of Houston Tx.
I thought it was too early to see them, but there they were.
We are talking dozens though, not hundreds or thousands as I have seen in years back.
I have been watching them since I was a little girl. Now that I am a Certified Texas Naturalist I have learned so much more about them. I have more facts now.
