Monarch Adult Sighted

Date: 08/04/2012

Number: 1

On June 1st my friend gave me seeds for the milkweed plant. I planted them on June 4th. On August 4th, I was standing outside taking pictures of my milkweeds when a Monarch butterfly landed on a few of them. I took a picture of it and emailed it to my friend, she told me that it was a female and that it was laying eggs. I counted 3 eggs. Last Wednesday, I found a newly hatched caterpillar and have been watching it closely ever since I found it. On Wednesday, when I was looking for this caterpillar, I noticed that I had 20 new eggs on my milkweed plant. Today, all but 3 of those eggs have hatched. My plants are still young, no blooms on them yet, so I never dreamed that a Monarch butterfly would be attracted to it.
