Wow, this is a great year for monarchs. Adults first appeared last week of June, started ovipositing 4 July, and are more abundant today than any time during my 25 years in cnetral Maine. We have ten cages on our counter with stage 2-5 larvae, many pupae, and release 1-2 adults each day. Now females are ovipositing preferentially on milkweed patches mowed earlier in summer as the mature plants are pretty tough for larvae to consume.
