We have had upwards of 10 or more hummingbirds show up this august in our garden so far. In years past I have seen over 20 at once and I suspect I will again this year. This morning I have added additional feeders (7 total) throughout the garden to accommodate them. Since a dominant bird tries to guard and ward off other feeding hummingbirds, I spread the feeders throughout the yard to be more beneficial to more birds. At times I have seen a single bird guarding up to three feeders. I have also noticed that a more dominant bird appears one day noticeably thin stays a couple weeks and leaves noticeably heavier. My wife and I call those birds little porkers.
