More monarchs this year - and earlier in spring - than at any time since the 1990's. Occasionally I've seen a dozen or more at one site. Today (8/17) probably a dozen adults (total) were nectaring on two Buddleia bushes at separate sites in Hawley, PA; one pr. was mating. In additon, almost every clump of milkweed turns up eggs and/or larvae. I haven't noted directional flight, but wonder if some of the monarchs clustering on Buddleia bushes (along normal miration routes)may be very early migrants - about 2 weeks ahead of time.
