Sightings report image

Date: 08/14/2012

Number: 1

saw a female laying eggs in my yard and lots of eggs on milkweed and a few young caterpillars. 2 weeks ago I hatched out 11 monarchs. All chrysalises were pointing their gold dots due east. I believe the sun triggers the emergence of the butterfly as it heats up the gold dots on the pupa to signal the butterfly to know it is a sunny day and not a rainy day. All hatched on sunny days. Here is an interesting photo of mine that I show you the parts of the pupa that relates to the caterpillar as it turns into a chrysalis. Really cool!
