This has been a pretty good year for butterflies and the birding has been excellent. At the moment I have 18 Monarch cats ready to pupate, 1 little cat and 5 eggs. Raised 2 Black Swallowtails and lots of Gorgone Checkerspots earlier in the season. The flight of the Red Admirals at the end of April was spectacular.

The Rufous Hummingbirds just left after a stay of 3 weeks and I sighted over 19 Bullock's Orioles in the back meadow. They have been regular visitors to the oranges and grape jelly for the past month too. Good sightings in the last month are as follows: Red Crossbill (feeding on wild sunflowers), Yellow Warbler (attracted to Trumpet Vine), and Western Tanager (likes oranges too). Hopefully this fall will bring more special visitors.

Today I need to go out and plant more butterfly bushes (Ellen's Blue), a couple of young Cottonwoods and a Wild Plum. This last week I planted another Trumpet Vine outside my bedroom window and a female Sumac that I grew from a cutting.
