Monarch (OTHER Observations)

Date: 08/20/2012

Number: 1

boy, i wish i had some good news for you.
I have been watching some prime alfalfa fields the past week
the winds have been northwesterly every day.
Every evening i think, maybe there are monarchs migrating from the north........
No such luck.
I am hoping that the early spring migration has put everything out of synch so to speak.
If so, and if the northern monarchs are following the pattern right here, i look for adults near the end of the month.
We have had virus problems and lots of predators.
Lots of good milkweed, but very little successful new generation butterflies.
I have seen very few caterpillars and can only hope that there are many i am missing in the chrysalis stage.
I will report instantly anything of significance concerning roosting activity that i spot.
For now, there simply are no monarchs to cluster
darkest right before the dawn, right???????????
