Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/23/2012

Number: 2

I have two different types of feeders, one is flat like a flying saucer and the other is a glass jar shaped like an hour glass that goes down into the red plastic flower shaped feeders at bottom. My hummingbirds have had to FIGHT for nectar at these feeders EVERY DAY since May 1st, 2012. By FIGHT, I mean just that, against other hummingbirds and against NUMEROUS DOWNY WOODPECKERS .. and against YELLOWJACKETS AND HORNETS. ALL have decided these two feeders are the best place in town!
Once I witnessed two woodpeckers feeding on opposite sides, face to face, while a poor hungry Ruby Throat was trying so hard to fly between them to get his share as well .. it's been fun to watch the dynamics of all these creatures .. but I put the feeders up for HUMMINGBIRDS and I wish they were tough enough to fight off the intruders! Nature is great!
