I run a Monarch Butterfly Program with 120 classrooms/home schools. I gather the eggs, and sometimes larva, for this program. This year I've seen increased numbers of unexplained deaths and malformed butterflies. While this last generation seems to have improved in this area, it has been concerning. I can only think that the severe heat and drought has played a part. I'm happy to report the ones I have released were fat, healthy butterflies. Hopefully they will continue to nectar and store some fat reserves before their journey south.
