Our resident ruby-throated hummingbirds migrated around August 15 - 19. The male departed first and the last female was observed late Sunday afternoon August 19th. They began gaining weight for the migration the last two weeks and were observed eating gnats and bugs plucked from the air and leaves and feeding heavily from the nectar plants and feeders.
A feeder will be kept up through the fall for any migrants that pass through as they have done in years past. We will miss our little magical friends and wish them a safe journey home. We will leave the light on for when they return in the spring!
