Monarch Larva Sighted

Date: 07/21/2012

Number: 1

I have milkweed plants on my deck. I was thrilled to discover one day in late July a monarch caterpillar (large) on one of the milkweed plants. It proceeded to eat a lot over the course of the next few days. My milkweed plants are a variety with very narrow leaves. The caterpillar chose instead to make its chrysalis on a nearby plants that has very big leaves. About a week later, it emerged. It stayed in my yard for a few days.
