I saw a female Monarch today, just west of Vegreville, Alberta. It was nectaring on Alfalfa in a mixed grass and alfalfa field. I happened to have my camera handy when out monitoring bird nest boxes. I've attached two photos. It looked to be very healthy.
I am also noticing more than the usual number of Mourningcloak and Milbert's Tortoiseshell. And it is also a very good year for asters and many other wildflowers.
