Hummingbird Sighting

Date: 08/31/2012

Number: 3

Hey All,

Well added a single feeder to the big Oak for the immature residents, and a 7 position to augment the 5 and 4 position feeders. (Each is separated by roughly 30 feet or 10 meters, each placed 1-1.5 meters off the ground.) Most of the migrants have passed through. We are primarily own to the female residents and hanging on immatures from further North that usually make up the second "rush".

We have two mature females one of which seems to have left in the last day the other snd the two immature females keep rotating through the multi-feeders with the lone mature female guarding her personal feeder. Looking at her with the binoculars shows she is not in great shape being a bit ruffled. I m concerned tht this is in part due to her defending the feeders prior to the addition.

With the cooler mornings, @65F on average, the impetus to go South is high, I increased the sugar by 1/3 to try to offer the calories for build up prior to these last beauties leaving. Hopefully, all will miss the poor weather coming with regard to the tropical storms and we will see them happy and healthy next year.
