Bald Eagle

Date: 08/23/2012

Number: 1

We were canoeing on Bearskin Lake in the Boundary Waters in Minnesota. The skies were threatening off to the west of a impending storm and therefore the winds were picking up a bit. We were heading back to the outfitters when we spotted at the top of a dead tree trunk a large bird. At first we thought that it was an osprey since we had seen a few flying overhead during the week but as we got closer, it was apparent that it was a bald eagle. Our son and daughter-in-law and 22 month old granddaughter were in one canoe, another canoe with two gentleman and us in our canoe all surrounding the base of this tree in the water observing this bird in hopes that it would take flight. The eagle was unaffected by our presence and allowed us to observe all we wanted. My son was able to take pictures but I don't have a copy at this reporting.
