Hummingbird Sighting
Sightings report image

Date: 08/31/2012

Number: 9

I still have nine Annas. Down (7). I had sixteen last report. I have two males and seven females. They are eating a lot. I have three large hummingbird feeders and have to change them every other day. The heat here in Rialto, California has been hard on them. The winds in the afternoon are gusting to 60mph and it is hard for them to stay on the feeders and impossible for them to hover and eat. They have been catching the bugs with no problem. I put out 1,000 winged fruit flies every week or ten days as I have read that bugs are their main food supply and nectar comes in second. I hope this is the right food for them. If not would someone please let me know. We love our hummingbirds at the Rialto PD. Mostly we just get jail birds over there so a hummer is such a nice change. Little Chip is still here and hasn't packed to go so hopefully I will have him all winter. He is so tiny and so perfect in every way.
