For the past eight days, we have had 8 immature Rufous Hummingbirds at our feeders. Also there have been immature Broad-tailed Hummingbirds coming through in the past three days.
The immature Rufous are males.
The immature Broad-tailed are also males.
I am unable to tell female Rufous Hummingbirds from the Broad-tailed Hummingbirds even after viewing them for a total of 10 hours in the past 8 days. I have taken pictures and gone on the internet to compare my pictures but find it still too difficult to separate the Rufous females and Broad tailed females.
I am an avid birder and am now 68 years old. I have been birding since age 13.
